St. Joseph Kerwa Parish Responds to The Challenge of Covid-19 Pandemic
From April 4, 2020 the parish priest and members of St. Joseph Kerwa initiated a process for food distribution to needy families drawn from all outstations. This effort was both an outcome of responding to the Lenten call for alms giving as well as a response to vulnerable families during this difficult period of Covid 19 pandemic.
The bulk of the food was donated by the office of Claretian Mission Procure, Karen through Fr. John Britto cmf in collaboration with the Claretian Missionaries working at St Joseph Catholic Parish, Kerwa. Later on, the parish priest initiated a response programme which was conceptualized and managed from the Basic Christian Communities towards the same. Each needy family took home a bale of maize flour, 4kg Sugar, 5ltrs cooking oil, 1 bar soap and ½ carton biscuits for children. This programme has been positively received by the beneficiaries.
With this initiative, a tradition of periodic food distribution has been formed and a team to follow up on the same has also been constituted. This has seen Christians pulling up both financial resources and food stuff to help the needy in the parish and in the neighborhood.
Fr Martin thanked all Christians for their continual contribution towards this noble cause. He also urged all parishioners to continue contributing to the account as the exercise will still continue until situations improves.
