FIRST AND FINAL PROFESSION
As the Church marked the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 8th September, the Claretian Congregation in this part of the world had the joy of receiving eleven new members who took their first profession and one member who took perpetual vows. The ceremony took place at St. Ann Catholic Church in Kibiko Ngong Kenya. Those who took their First vows include Elias Wanyonyi Maina, Harrison Akwiri Omondi, Victor Odhiambo Oduol, Joel Murimi Nyathumba, and Silas Marucha from Kenya, Gerald Lubwama from Uganda, George Chidyamatondo from Zimbabwe, Ergito Jose Xavier and Messias Alberto Joaquim from Mozambique, Antonio Nungulu Lohoca from Angola and Edgar Cabral Vila Nova from Sao Tome and Principe. Student Baziliyo Kyaligonza from Uganda made his perpetual profession.
The vows were received by Fr. Athanasius Madu CMF, the prefect of apostolate and the Vicar of St. Charles Lwanga Independent Delegation, on behalf of Fr. Joy CMF who had travelled to Rome as a delegate of the XVI General Chapter. In his remarks, Fr. Madu CMF reminded the newly professed and the perpetually professed that they had just began a new chapter in their life and they should live it happily. In his homily, Fr. Amos Moses CMF exhorted those about to take first profession and final profession to mean and live what they say. He said that the ‘Amen’ said at the end of the formula of profession had a double effect on the candidate making profession: to believe in what he professes and makes the congregant trust in his words. He called upon the congregants to pray for the candidates that they may persevere and remain firm in their commitment. When challenges come, they should take the example of St. Joseph who didn’t want to shame the Blessed Virgin Mary but had decided to leave her secretly. They should always seek the help of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Anthony Mary Claret and truly live in apostolic community following in the steps of our Father founder.
